So first of all apologies, I was far to quiet in 2017 and I need to get back on the Blog Wagon in 2018. We have lots of important business to be getting on with - least alone making eating out for Coeliacs much easier!
I retweeted a post from Coeliac UK today about Starbucks and how they have introduced Oat Milk for people who can't tolerate dairy. That's great and I'm really pleased to hear that non-dairy drinkers can enjoy a Starbucks but then the post went on to say that they may well be cross-contamination. Well that isn't helpful to anyone! The non-dairy drinkers are going to want to drink dairy-oaty milk and Coeliacs aren't going to want to drink oaty-dairy milk!
We were at Lakeside a few weeks ago and there was a stall selling something which was ablaze with signs saying that it was dairy free, gluten free, nut free etc etc and when we went to buy some, the lady said "Oh, it isn't suitable for Coeliacs as it might not actually be gluten free"!! So why did they have a ten foot sign (ok, that might be an exaggeration but it was a BIG sign) proclaiming this product to be gluten free!!!!! If I hadn't specifically asked the question we would have bought it and poisoned TLC.
That's what it comes down to - people don't realise that eating a teeny tiny bit of gluten is actually poisoning our bodies. So I am back on the education band wagon, here to spread the message about what being a Coeliac means and sharing experiences along the way.
Happy 2018 all!
