Let's Eat #10, Chocolate biscuits

We were in Center Parcs last week (more on that to come), got back yesterday afternoon so had a week's worth of washing to do and the dreaded job of taking down the Christmas decorations, which were supposed to be packed away before we went but never quite made it off of the shelves! It's such a pain of a job isn't it? Those same Christmas decorations which were so fun to put up a month ago are infinitely less fun to take down!!!! Especially when you leave the job to the very last minute! And why is it that the same decorations never fit back into the same boxes that you took them out of?!?! After that, the plan for today was to unpack, do the washing and have a huge spring clean/tidy. Now I don't know about you, but every time we start a big sort out operation, I brace the children "we need to sort out the old toys, we are going to recycle the toys that are broken and take the ones that you are too old for to the charity shop, OK?" to which I get a resounding "noooo!!!!!!!!, those are our favourites, we play with that all of the time, that isn't actually broken, Daddy can fix that, but we love that. my dolly needs that in her cot" etc etc etc. Needless to say, that is what happened today, so as they were playing, I did what I know many of you will do (but maybe not admit to?!?!?! :) ), I silently sneaked out the old bits of junk that we really don't need any more (to prove I'm not the world's worst mother, I'm talking here about things like "the green piece of paper that's been cut into a square and really must be kept to show Nana because it is so much more special than the other 99 similar squares all over the table"). So by mid-afternoon I had a pretty satisfying bag of recycling which will be placed in the garage for a suitable amount of time (i.e. long enough to make sure enough time has passed that when someone realises the green square is no longer with us, that mega-meltdown does not ensue) before being processed to the dump!.

Whilst doing this, we were playing with playdoh, colouring, making cards for Great-Grandad, reading, etc etc so by the time my husband came home this afternoon, it really didn't look like we'd made any progress at all and in fact looked on the surface, a lot worse than it had when he'd left this morning! I however was happy that some of the rubbish we had been stockpiling had been sorted out!

We had a quick blast of Bake Off (saved from Christmas), then it was time for some baking! Yippee!! The Little Coeliac got some lovely personalised whisks for Christmas from 3 Blond Bears which needed trying out (TLC loves them, they're really pretty and you can write your own message on the handle; we have a Mummy one and a TLC one which is super cute!) and of course, Santa delivered the Nosh Gluten Free Baking cook book so we had a flick through and started marking the delicious treats that we thought we might like to make.

Amongst many other things, there were some chocolate biscuits which looked fab. We had all of the ingredients in the cupboard so we thought we would give them a go. As I have come to expect from this book, the recipe was easy to follow, didn't call for any extravagant extras and was very successful. We very nearly didn't have any mixture to cook at all as TLC and her brother (OK, and I!) couldn't help but sample the dough along the way!!! It tasted sooooo good!!! Luckily, some made it into the oven and... ta da..... yummy scrummy biscuits were made!

We sampled one as soon as it came out of the oven as we just couldn't wait a second longer but then we saved the rest for when Daddy got home and he was in agreement that they were GOOD!

There is now just one sad little biscuit left sitting on the side. I could wrap it up for tomorrow but .. things are always nicer on the day they are baked .. and then TLC and her brother would have to share it ... and it isn't good for them to have too may treats..... yes, I think you're right.... I'd better go and clear it away......... :)
