If you live somewhere with "sea" in its name, you've got to love eating fish and chips!! I can't think of anything all that much more satisfying that, after a long day, especially when it's cold and crisp, picking up a big steaming bag of yummy fish and chips. Well that's fine for me to say, I have the pick of countless take always dotted endlessly around the town but for The Little Coeliac, her options are more limited. That isn't to say they're non-existent though! Thankfully, a number of our local fish and chip shops are mindful of coeliac disease and some go as far as actively publicising the availability of gluten free fish which is fantastic. I know that fish and chips might not sound like a traditional Christmas menu choice but once you've filled yourself to the brim with turkey and all of the trimmings, some fresh air on the beach followed by fish and chips sounds pretty good to me!
I will add to this post as we visit more places but for now, here are three good ones I've found. Please always check before buying - I cannot guarantee that processes will not change and I wouldn't want you to be poorly as a result!
1) Ideal fish bar on London Road. Their chips are (usually) always gluten free and if you call them in advance they can do gluten free fish too. Perfect if you are on your way home and need a quick treat for dinner!
2) Fish-a-Licious on London Road You have to call in advance for gluten free fish or chips but if you do, there is a great choice especially for little ones (fish bites etc). They are really friendly and the food is great.
3) Simply Seafood, Old Leigh This has changed hands in recent times and is now an eat in and take away "nice" fish and chip shop. We've only ever eaten in but they are very accommodating and always cook TLC fresh chips and make her gluten free batter. The portions are huge and the food is always lovely! Great to be able to sit outside in the summer too!
Hope your Christmas preparations are going well!!
